For the most part yes. I do pull in when i go to a town next to me because their parking spots are big enough to put 2 scion xb’s in one..

I reverse into most spots, besides angled, because it allows me to put my driver door on the same side as someone else’s driver door and I can do us both a favor by giving a little more space.

I grew up in a small town and after my driving test I barely ever had to parallel park. Then I moved to a big city and the skill became essential. It wasn’t until I was reminded to back in that I really got the hang of it again. So much easier. Line your rear tire up to the car’s rear bumper, cut the wheel all the way, ease in.

The parallel parking on my small town drivers test involved pulling into a spot that had no cars behind it, so you could just pull straight in (though a classmate was failed for rubbing the curb). I didn’t have to do real parallel parking at all until half-way through junior year of college, and even then I normally cheated and used places where there were two or three spots (just to get in, I didn’t block spots for people who were better parkers).

Not in my MR2. No need. Start out pointing in the opposite direction you want to be parked pointed in, accelerate in a straight line, lift and give a tiny bit of input at the same time. The car will be backwards against the kerb before you know it!

I like to slightly swoop into and out of it first so I’m already at an angle when I start backing in. It’s completely unnecessary, but it gets the point across to anyone following me so that they’ll give me room. Usually.

My dad (when he was in college) was rear parking, after a 12-hour shift in deep mining with explosives when some wise-ass tried to pull that off (nose dive parking). He asked politely to this fella to leave him the parking spot, to what this guy replied something in a rough translation akin to “The world belongs to the smarts”.

Let’s say that that guy got off the car through the window pulled by his collar. And his car got the roof bashed in 4 inches. And it was no thin sheet car, it was a Beetle.

My father says he can’t remember exactly what he said to the guy, but he promptly got back into the Beetle, head tilted to the left due the roof crushed in, backed off, and vanished quickly.

To this day, he said it was the stupidest thing he could ever do, because he could’ve been shot. The fact that my dad gets beet-red when angry surely helped the guy’s decision to leave the situation as it is.

My mom recalls when someone else did a similar thing on her college. Except the other guy was unfazed, and the parking lot was on top of a steep hill, like those teen movies. After the wise-ass left, he just put in 1st gear, and pushed.

I reverse to parallel park, but I also back in to most spaces. Having the trailing wheels steer is always easier, and it makes it safer and easier to exit the space.
